Bald Black Girl(s) is a multidisciplinary project by poet and visual artist Ruth Sutoyé, which centres the experiences of bald Black women in the UK. It leans into conversations and themes around women choosing to shave their heads including: perceptions of masculinity, femininity and androgyny; barbershop dynamics as a woman; explorations of sexuality and more. The project culmination is an exhibition showcasing photography and a poetry film; a workshop and a live performance night. The Exhibition was held at unit 4 Gallery and currently Roundhouse London.
In 2019, I co-produced and curated this exhibition alongside Ruth Sutoyé. The Exhibition took place at Unit 5 Gallery in Hackney, the Freeword Centre and Roundhouse London. I hosted the conversation post film screening at the Freeword Centre, Listen here.
