The Future is often thought about in isolation or in detachment from the past and present. Built From Past at Present explores how the future is built from reimaginations and by carving the past and putting into practice in the present day. It’s a test bed of what Black Futures could look like.

Built of Past at Present was an new exhibition commissioned for BASS Festival 2019 featuring fresh work by multimedia artists Emmanuel Unaji, Najma Abdulle and photographer Adama Jalloh exploring black futures and how they are simultaneously built of the past and present.
