Decolonising the Curatorial is an ongoing research project that started in 2019 with an Arts Council funded trip to Barbados and New York to look at the impact of colonialism on the artistic infrastructure and being an artist in these spaces. The trip included a documentation of Crop Over 2019 and how carnival culture is an exhibition away from (but in some cases tied to) colonial legacy.

As a curator of Bajan heritage, it was a real eye open to immerse myself in my own culture with a curatorial hat on. I learn’t a lot and interviewed many people across Barbados and New York. Interviews, audio recordings and more will be available on this site soon.
